The Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival is a two day celebration of a lifelong love of comics with workshops, art activities, and one-on-one encounters between comics readers and comics makers.
Announcing the 2026 A2CAF Headliners!
John Patrick Green is the writer and artist of the graphic novels Hippopotamister, the Eisner-nominated series Kitten Construction Company, and the New York Times-bestselling InvestiGators series. He was the comics consultant for Disney Adventures magazine, and has worked on comics for Nickelodeon, Dreamworks, Scholastic, DC Comics, and First Second Books.
Victoria Jamieson is author and illustrator of Roller Girl (Newbery Honor) based on her own experience playing roller derby and All's Faire in Middle School about a middle schooler who works at a Ren Faire. She also illustrated and co-authored with Omar Mohamed When Stars are Scattered, which won a National Book Award and an Eisner. She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, son, and surly cat Sharon.
Kazu Kibuishi is the writer and artist of the New York Times-bestselling Amulet graphic novel series that has been translated into 23 languages worldwide. He works as a full-time graphic novelist and is currently producing an Amulet live-action feature film for Netflix. He has collaborated with Brandon Sanderson and edited the series Flight and Explorer. Born in Tokyo, Japan, Kazu moved to the U.S. with his mother and brother when he was a child. Kazu lives near Seattle, Washington with his wife and two children.
Former Hallmark artist and the creator of Asteroid Andy, Pedro is the author and illustrator of the award-winning Mexikid: A Graphic Memoir. Pedro also chronicles his life growing up Mexican American in an online series called Mexikid Stories. His work has won an Eisner, Harvey, Pura Belpré, and Newbery Honor Award. He lives with his very talented wife and two somewhat talented dogs in Kansas City, Missouri.

Inkubate: Finding Your Comics Voice
How do comics creators discover what kind of comics they want to make? Who their audience is? Which stories inspire them? Join A2CAF guests Kazu Kibuishi (Amulet), Victoria Jamieson (When Stars Are Scattered), and John Patrick Green (InvestiGators) for a rich discussion about all the decisions they make when creating graphic novels. Moderated by Meggie Ramm.
5–8 PM | Cluster Museum
One Shot! Opening Reception
Cluster Museum hosts the One Shot! art opening, exploring the process of creating a finished comic book and graphic novel. The exhibit offers a behind-the-scenes look at character development, landscapes and settings, imagination and research, and dialogue before it transforms into a finished book or novel. This is a family-friendly show.

Ari Coester
Ari Coester is a comics creator from Ann Arbor, Michigan and creator of the webcomic The Catchild. All his work (whether fiction, nonfiction, or autobiography) focuses on ecology and pushes for positive social change. He most enjoys creating colorful illustrations of creatures and monsters.

ArtSmith Press
ArtSmith Press is a duo from Flint, MI, made up of writer Sam Moore and artist J.R. Harris. Since 2019, the two have collaborated on comic books, zines, and art of all different kinds. Their aim is to create stories that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike, primarily releasing a mixture of fantasy and adventure stories, all with a strong focus on heart and wonder.

Ben Wright-Heuman
Ben hails from Richmond, VA. A lifelong writer and doodler, he originally pursued screenwriting before realizing that comics were his true passion and calling. He currently works as a freelance cartoonist and illustrator in Columbus, OH, making comics that span the genres of mystery, science fiction, horror, humor, and nonfiction. His most recent project, with Rainer Kannenstine, Universal Flaws of Robotics won the 2025 SPACE Prize for Best Graphic Novel.

Brandon Hankins
Brandon is a comics creator and ink painter from Detroit, currently living in East Lansing, Michigan. He focuses on telling action-packed and meaningful fantasy stories, intent on affecting people positively and profoundly. A student of the Japanese art of ink painting, or sumi-e, Brandon strives to infuse every stroke of his brush with life, energy, and honesty.

Chris Rodriguez
Chris Rodriguez is a Cuban-American comic illustrator/author based in Ann Arbor. She got suckered into drawing dragons by her first dragon-loving kid and now here she is, drawing dragons all the time, often cooking. When not drawing or writing, she competes in artistic rollerskating and plays ukulele.

Dana Atnip
Dana Atnip is a cartoonist and illustrator based in Michigan. She is best known for her comedy/adventure webcomic Galactic Dragons, as well as for her whimsical and sometimes sassy character designs that are offered in the form of stickers, posters, prints, and magnets in the hopes of brightening your day and making you smile.

Eloise Rios
Eloise is a Midwestern-based artist who makes books of all kinds, including comics, zines, and artists' books. A self-identified Risograph enthusiast, her work explores themes of performance and truth. You can probably find her reading a book, drawing, or a combination of both: making comics!

Emily Zelasko
Emily Zelasko (The Jolly Thief) is a fantasy illustrator. Her graphic novel Edme is a Scottish folklore-inspired comic. Folklore is imbued with historical elements and Emily enjoys sharing these realities with the fantasy. Aside from comics, Emily does a variety of illustrative work and has started to expand into picture books and art books. One of her newest books is a collection of memories from Japan.

Eve Gordon
Eve is a nature-based zine artist whose passion in zine production derives from her fascination with the natural world and her desire to share her discoveries with others. Her work shares the animals, plants, and biomes around us through zines to inspire a love for nature in readers.

Felix McKenna
Felix McKenna is a cartoonist and animator from Ann Arbor, MI. They make comics about weird little animals stumbling their way through life and relationships, and about learning to find magic in the mundane.

Heidi Black
Heidi is an Eisner and JLG gold medal-winning comic artist and illustrator with an affinity for watercolor and other traditional mediums. They have a lot of things they would like to get done, including more comics, but they are busy abusing the US postal system to send protest glitter to politicians.

James Anderson
As a child, James spent an incredible amount of time preparing to become Spider-Man in his adult life. Though these plans never materialized, his other great pursuit, drawing comics, did. Influenced by his love of dinosaurs, Bugs Bunny cartoons, and Star Wars, all of these things and more have found their way into his art. James spends his days as a graphic designer, and his nights are spent drawing Ellie On Planet X and MacFluff. He lives with his amazingly artistic wife and two dogs.

Jason Douglas
Jason Douglas is a Northville-based author of comics like Parallel (dark sci-fi that won two Ringo nominations) and Jane American (a WWII coming of age story set in historic Plymouth, Michigan). Jason's latest title is No Man's Land, a WWI werewolf tale exploring childhood trauma, friendship, and betrayal.

Jasper Morris
Jasper Morris is a Michigan-based artist who does comics, animation, and illustration. His work is focused on fantasy, queerness, and anything whimsical and weird.

Jay B Kalagayan
Jay is a Filipino American writer and publisher of Creative Mussel. He is the creator of MeSseD Comics, Filipino Assassin: The Untold Story of Vincent Manago Hambright, St. Malo: First Filipinos in North America, Grassman: Ohio’s Favorite Cryptid, and The Goat: Pope Lick Creek Monster.

Jeff Lilly
Jeff is a writer, editor, and educator who has been writing comics for over three decades. His current projects include the Zelda Award-nominated urban fantasy webcomic The Extras with Pam Bliss and Katie Hodges, Cricket with Katie Hodges, Tales From The City with Josh Harris, and several more in the works. Jeff is a member of Imaginos Workshop.

Jessi Zabarsky
Jessi Zabarsky is a cartoonist and illustrator living in Chicago. She makes comics about small journeys and big feelings, with queer themes and folksy environments. Her first two graphic novels are Witchlight and Coming Back, and she self publishes smaller comics. She also works for the Chicago Parks District so ask her about native plants!
Justin Castaneda
Justin Castaneda is a Filipino-American comic artist and children's author from Chicago's south side. He is best known for his children's book Heart, and is the co-creator of the award-winning comic series Wonder Care Presents: The Kinder Guardians. He is also the writer/illustrator for the comic one-shot Juju's World of Play.

Kamron Reynolds
Kamron Reynolds was born and raised in Ann Arbor Michigan. He now lives in Ypsilanti and has always had a passion for comic books and hip hop music. "Kool Ade" Kam delivers a soundtrack to a blue collar, working artist from Michigan and is a working comic book artist. Kam illustrates stories for young people, elderly people and anyone in between.

Kelci D Crawford
Kelci D Crawford (they/them) is the artist behind Fantasyville Productions. Kelci makes and publishes comics focusing on inclusive stories, is a podcast host, voice of Nibford for The Cartoonist Co-op, and teaches cool accessible creative workshops for everyone.

Koi Tsang
Koi Tsang is a Chinese American illustrator and comic artist. Currently they are a student at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit Michigan. Koi loves to use their work to spread the joy of creating using a colorful semi-realistic comic-inspired art style.

Leslie Perrine
Leslie Perrine is an artist who lives in a little house near a lake in Saint Paul, Mn. She loves creating stories about creatures and the worlds in which they live. She uses different book art forms to tell their stories such as pop ups and puzzle purses. Her work is friendly towards all ages and creatures.

Lisa DuBois-Thompson
Lisa DuBois-Thompson is a cartoonist from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ever since she was a kid, she knew she wanted to draw pictures on the computer. She has worked on Rugrats for Boom! Studios, Aggretsuko: Meet Her Friends for Oni Press, and Indoor Kid for Oni Press. Her self-published short comic Journey to the Dragon's Den should be out shortly.

Longboard Wipeout Art
Longboard Wipeout Art once tried long boarding. He had a wipeout… on a hill that was too steep. During his recovery he decided to start posting his art online more consistently, and could only think of this incident for a catchy name. His work includes comics and zines using mixed media. Some of LWA’s titles are the Cossack Danylo series, Sonny the Scarecrow, and Cyril the Samoyed.

Lumen Lovelace
Lumen (he/they) is an illustrator, cartoonist, and sequential/character artist based out of Detroit. Their first webcomic is My Best Friend is an Alien has been published since January, 2025. Besides drawing, Lumen loves video games, crafts, and is working on their own fursuit.

Margarita Dikova
Margarita Dikova is a Bulgarian-American Illustrator, zine-maker/cartoonist, and graphic designer based in Michigan. Her artwork is an intense and expressive funky energy centering around eco-punk themes accompanied by surreal folk horror writing and poetry. She is currently working on a big graphic novel project called The Fall of Clown Kingdom about the journey of a mouse that enters a traveling circus/castle.

Mark Bell
Mark Bell is the writer and publisher behind Plague Doctor Press, an indie comics imprint dedicated to all-ages, LGBTQ+ positive, female-led supernatural adventure. The press publishes two titles: S.P.I.R.I.T., a supernatural adventure series, and Strange Ranger, an action-packed adventure comic. Both series feature diverse characters, gorgeous art, and stories built for readers who want to see themselves as the hero.

Marsh Granados
Marsh is a non-binary Mexico-born artist currently residing in Northwest Ohio. They love cutesy yet scary stuff and bright colors. Their latest works are a short horror comic for the anothology My New Friend and the first issue of Magical Monster Girls.

Matt Feazell
Matt Feazell is an award-winning cartoonist and retired graphic designer located in Hamtramck, Michigan. Matt has been recognized by Cartoon Crossroads Columbus (CXC) for his transformative work in The Amazing Cynicalman series. In Understanding Comics, Scott McCloud described Matt’s style as “iconic” art taken to its greatest degree—in other words, a textbook example of cartooning fundamentals! His current work is Stick Figure Storytelling, a graphic novel where the characters write their own stories.

Maya Scarpa
Maya Scarpa is an Asian American artist based in Cleveland, Ohio. Through her work, she aims to remind people of the joy found in the mundane. Her figurative illustrations capture the small moments we share with ourselves, other people, and cats! Maya enjoys editorial and marketing projects, but she has the strongest affinity for comics, zines, and storytelling.

Michelangelo Cicerone
Michelangelo Cicerone is the creator of Ozone Jones and has been drawing comics since the age of six (but believes he still doesn't know what he's doing). He has also done some teaching, some designing, some animation, some performing, some publishing, some advertising ...all somewhat passably.

Mya Lixian Gosling
Mya (she/her) is the author and artist of Good Tickle Brain, the world's foremost (and possibly only) stick-figure Shakespeare webcomic. Mya thinks Shakespeare is super fun, and wants other people to also think that Shakespeare is super fun. Since 2013, Good Tickle Brain has been entertaining and subversively educating people with Shakespeare-related comics, extremely short and reductive summaries, song parodies, and pop culture mash-ups.

Nina Nowak & Eleanor Magar
Eleanor & Nina are spring peepers who worship their froggy bucket hats, Puddles. Nina and Eleanor come out once in a green moon to sell their fan-beloved comics.
Olivia Glynn
Olivia Glynn is an artist and storyteller from Ann Arbor, MI. Their favorite mediums to work in are stop motion, comics, and prose. Her most recent work includes the stop motion short Lazarus Jack, the comic A Little Story about Death, and the short story Repair, Reprogram, Reeducate: A Simple Three Step Process to Fix your Super-Computer, which won a 2026 Hopwood Undergraduate Award in Fiction. She is a junior at U of M Stamps School of Art & Design with a minor in creative writing.

Paul D. Storrie
Paul D. Storrie is an Eisner-nominated writer who has been working in comics since the late ‘90s. His first comic Robyn of Sherwood was created with artist Michael Larson for Caliber Comics. He has also written stories for Moonstone Books, DC Comics, Marvel Comics, and IDW Publishing. His most recent titles are the Eisner nominated Stanley’s Ghost and Stanley & the Forgotten Forest. He is perhaps best known for the Gotham Girls mini-series from DC.

Phoenix Press
The Phoenix Press is an indie publishing house from South Eastern Michigan. Their journey began in 2019 and has gone from strength to strength since. Known best for the comic book Screecher, and the novel Lost Kingdom, they seek to put a fresh spin on the genre.

Ruth McNally Barshaw
Ruth McNally Barshaw wrote and illustrated six Ellie McDoodle Diaries, illustrated Grandpa Heaven, Grandma Heaven, There's No Base Like Home and Leopold the Lion. She received her first perfect-bound sketch-journal from a prescient art teacher at age 15 and has been keeping journals ever since.

Scout Underhill
Scout Underhill (they/them) is a storyteller who enjoys weaving a tale through sequential art. Inspired by their real life dogs, they created DnDoggos as a webcomic in 2017. In 2024 the DnDoggos began a new adventure in their debut graphic novel DnDoggos Get the Party Started. Followed by DnDoggos Spells Like Trouble in 2026, the series is packed with adorable dogs and useful tips for role-playing game newcomers.

Sean Peacock
All Sorrows is the moniker of Sean Peacock, an illustrator and comic artist from Dearborn, MI. Sean’s artwork embraces vintage comic art, horror, fantasy, and psychedelia. His comics work includes Blood Honey and Romeo & Juliet & Godzilla from IDW, as well as indie books Peppermint Desert and Danger Boi.

Senna Church
Senna is a comic artist, illustrator, and ceramics artist outside of Ypsilanti. She makes a variety of zines and comics about ceramics, games, and fantasy creatures!

Snoozzzes
Snoozzzes is a cartoonist and comic artist from the Midwest. They make two ongoing webcomics Buttermilk & Yoyo and Dead or Alive. While not drawing cute things and cowboys, they like to read, play video games, collect Pokemon cards, and pet their dog.
