there has been a murder at the GLC (the building I work at on campus).
I am not there, but holy hell.
omg

update 10:00 pm: it happened in the coffee shop, which is part of the public space and around the corner from the front desk. It was an Asian international student who lived at the GLC. The suspect is also an Asian international student who knew the girl.
Why did it have to happen out in the open? That means there were witnesses - people who saw a woman die. No one should have to witness that.
I'm just beside myself.
Part of me wishes I was working b/c I know what death feels like at the GLC as I was there for 4-16, but I also don't know how I would have handled it.
Just the thought of going back is overwhelming. It brings back that horrible April day.

You know, I have it very funny that so many "Green" advertisements use turfgrass.
People go on and on about how horrible golf courses are and how they pollute the streams and kill birds and whatnot. And yet, in green advertisements like the ones below, what crop do they chose? Turfgrass.

BTW, I found these pictures on google image search by typing in "green living"

The truth is that golf courses are strictly regulated on their pesticide and fertilize applications.
When will I learn that WalMart just doesn't understand the concept of bringing your own bag?
I stopped there on my way home from work yesterday to get lemons and Kilz paint. When the lady scanned the Kilz, I informed her that I had my own bag, so she put it in the bag. Then she scanned the lemons and put them in plastic. I said, no I have my own bag. Her reply, "Oh I don't mind." Um, that's not the point. She just continued to put the plastic bag in my reusable bag, while I mumbled, "but it defeats the whole purpose." I knew if I insisted that I did not want a bag, she would have just thrown the bag away.
__________________
I also don't understand gas prices. Gas around me $2.28/gallon. Why? What is the deal? How can gas prices go up so quickly and now decrease so quickly? It just doesn't make sense. Well actually, it does make sense. It's just stupid how when the election is right around the corner and the economy is falling to pieces, the damn gas prices are now surprisingly low.

__________________
I went to Goodwill this weekend to look for a 'wedding dress' for a murder mystery party and OMG that place was packed! I have never seen it that busy before. Is it just b/c the economy is shit? And the prices really aren't that great. $3.50 for a used t-shirt and $4 for a 1980's grandma dress.

__________________
For the first time ever, I saw a sign at TJ Maxx that said, "take 25% off the lowest price." TJ never has signs like this. It's always the price that is on the sticker. Guess they're really trying to move stock.

__________________
Dr. Zenobia Hikes, Vice President for student affairs at VT, passed away from complications from cardiac surgery. You focus on what's in front of you (the foreground) and how that is affected by the details of life. You are also particularly drawn towards the shapes around you. Because of the value you place on nature, you tend to find comfort in more subdued settings and find energy in solitude. You like to deal directly with whatever comes your way without dealing with speculating possibilities or outcomes you can't control. You are highly focused on specific goals or tasks and find meaning in life by pursuing those goals. You prefer a structured environment within which to live and you like things to be predictable.

The Perception Personality Types:

Take The Perception Personality Image Test at HelloQuizzy

Sometimes I am so smart, it's just amazing.

For example today I said we needed to get the dogs an appropriate bed for their crate b/c the old towels just weren't cutting it. They were coated in fur and would get scrunched up into one corner. I even saw Roger try to lie on the tiny bit of towel Zea left him b/c most of it was scrunched up under her body. After seeing all the beds at Petsmart and noting how Zea would find the foam or filling in 2 seconds, I suggested a bathmat or car mat.
We picked up a bathmat with the rubber on the bottom so it won't slip from BigLots for $10. It fits perfectly. And there is no foam for Zea to eat.

See, I'm smrt! ;0)

I have a 5 hr shift I still have left to get through and a cookie and pink lemonade could make a bit more bearable.

We played in the co-ed softball championship game last night and lost. bummer.
We had to play one team at 7:15 and then if when we won that, we played the winner of the 6:15 game.
Our 7:15 game was against the Yankees (our team name is Shake and Bake) and wow they were so white trash. We whopped them, bad. And they did not like that. Of course most of them were probably drunks and they're not happy drunks. Their 1st base(wo)man was talking last week about how she punched some guy in the mouth in a bar b/c he touched her butt and how she broke 2 of his teeth. She was also standing in my mom's line of sight last week and my mom was too afraid to ask her to move. Yeah.

The next game was much more fun, even though we lost.

I love this team I am on. They're all so much fun and they don't take themselves seriously. It makes playing, even when losing, so much fun.

Next week we're having a cookout and I am going to make a cake (from my souther cakes recipe book) that looks like a softball. ha!

Oh and I totally just watched Miley Cyrus on the Today Show and was enjoying her performance. She can rock and has fabulous hair. I want fabulous hair . . . and her money.

It hasn't been updated with the newest member, Alma Bennett , from the English Department. All their names are inscribed in granite below the Carillion Bell.

Heh, there's Dr. Senn.

I sometimes forget what a great class I am associated with. At the hospitality hour (complete with full bar), the President of Clemson, James Barker, visited and Dr. Senn introduced us to him. Dr. Barker noted that it was actually my second time shaking his hand - the first being graduation in 2001. (Dr. Barker (an architect) has made a sketch of the caboose garden that I love. I need to scan the picture.) I believe he stopped by since the Class of 1939 is one of the oldest classes having a reunion that weekend.

Of course, I have to show off the Class of 1939 Caboose Garden, while I am gloating.

Sadly, this is the best picture I could find.

Which then made a light bulb go off in my head. I have been trying to think of an idea for the 70th reunion next year - as in 70 yrs since they graduated! - and well there is no Clemson Class of 1939 website for us to share everything the Class has done and continues to do. If we want the Class to continue to thrive while the original members are dwindling, we need an outlet to do so. Why not a website?
I just may put this idea out there and see what everyone else thinks. hmmmm
