3.8 out of 5 stars (126)

Lily knows she is easier to love in small doses.

Wellness Influencer, Lily Long, appears to have it all together now. A decade ago she left her small town and her teen marriage behind, starting over…and over…and over. Searching for a place to belong she’s constantly trying to to fit the expectations others seem to have of her.

River knows old secrets could destroy his chances with the one who got away.

River Hendrix, is an anxious shell of his old goofball self. After taking over the family business from his ailing father, he has worked diligently to prove he’s worthy and capable of growing their multi-generation town legacy. This single-minded pursuit might have come at the cost of his personal life, but what does it matter when the girl of his dreams left town long ago?

Now Lily is returning to Peacock Springs to celebrate their friend's engagement. Will Lily’s carefully curated facade survive the close-up scrutiny of those who love her best? Will River find the confidence to admit to her how he’s always felt? Luckily their meddling friends see this opportunity to bring Lily home, help River relax, and reunite their little “fr-amily.” That is, so long as everyone can survive the fallout of the secret River’s held onto and a weird town mandate they can’t make go away.

Are they flying towards the adventure of a lifetime or just running from the past?
Flying includes a M/F, friends-to-lovers, small-town romance full of quirky townies, found family, spice, and a guaranteed HEA. It is the first book in a series of interconnected romantic traum-com stories, exploring human stress response behavior. Set in Peacock Springs, NJ, they highlight healing through laughter and love.

Book Review
I picked up Flying after running into the author @jordanablakebooks at @barnesandnoble She was so fun and excited to share some of her favorite reads and authors with me. It was then that she shared she was an author herself! As soon as I got home, I downloaded Flying and got to reading! 📚 The text did not disappoint! It’s such a cute love story about a woman who struggled with undiagnosed symptoms of ADHD. The text dealt with family problems, avoidance issues, and self love among other things. Growing up the way I did and constantly dealing with a million open tabs in my brain, it was easy to relate to the story. It was truly a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend.

Flying is a fun, quirky, easy, small town romance, filled with 90s/early 00s references that sucked me in immediately. Lily is a loving, anxious, relatable mess (in the best way) who gets a late in life ADHD diagnosis. River is a sweet, passionate bar owner who has loved Lily since childhood. This book made me feel all the feelings, I was anxious, angry (Grant and Lily's parents are a piece of work), giddy and laughing obnoxiously throughout.

Lily's anxiety and all together personality felt more relatable than I expected as I've only ever been diagnosed with just anxiety. Her character growth and her coming to the realization that you don't have to make everyone happy to be happy was an amazing lesson, one I myself am still learning at 33 years old. And River and his love and patience for Lily was so sweet and heartwarming.

Overall I really enjoyed Flying and would love to visit Peacock Springs, I might even volunteer to dress up and sit in the stockyard. Great debut novel and I'm very excited to read Fighting.

This amazing #smalltownromance was cozy, yet #spicy at the same time. Lots of great pop-culture #eastereggs and references. Lily is a super and relatable #fmc and it was so refreshing to see a #neurodivergent character portrayed so well. As someone who is also estranged from a parent, and who has (on several occasions) been told I’m “too much,” I found myself wanting to crawl into the book and hug Lily on more than one occasion.

#PeacockSprings sounds like a super cute town, but, DANG they did her DIRTY! And those #italiangrandmothers really gotta mind their own business 🤣

River. Oh, River. Where do I even begin? 🥰 He sees the walls that Lily puts up, and instead of trying to barrel through them, he gives her time and grace to heal and grow. He’s not a #perfectmmc as he has his own #secrets and #anxiety to work through, but his unwavering support of Lily was fantastic.

The 🌶️ was good, not overwhelming or underwhelming in any way. It also didn’t feel like filler or that it was forced. It felt natural for the storyline and character development. River definitely has a #freakinthesheets attitude and I am HERE for it!

The #femalefriendships in #flying felt real, genuine, and I found myself wanting to be friends with Nessa and Stef.

Highly recommend and cannot wait to see what’s in store for Lily and the gang next!

The story is good, but Jordana needs a new editor and a new proof reader to turn this into a good read

I liked that this book covered a number of years. The town itself was kind of odd (who has “stocks” in the town square?) but it works for the story. I loved River, Lily was a little harder for me. I enjoyed the friendships, so I’ll be interested in the next book.

Lily Long was married at 18 and divorced at 18. The small town of Peacock Springs turnes on her blaming her for everything including her reaction to finding her husband was cheating. She ran away for a decade before coming home. If it wasn't for her best friend, she would still be running.

The first person she bumps into is her childhood friend River who now owns the Featherweight. He calls her and keeps her grounded. River sees this as a chance to fix the decade old secrets he's been keeping.

Coming home brings up a lot of old feelings for Lily and she realizes her parents still disown her from her divorce and her small hometown elders and most of their children want her to pay for the punishments that she ran from. Lily's journey of working through the past helps her face the town and even learns she has ADHD. She works through learning about it and rediscovering herself and finding her confidence.

I love the journey that Lily works through and the way that River is there to help and support her as a friend. She grows so much while still having so much to work through still.

I think this part of the story was great, but the weird obsession of making Lily pay for her punishment was weird all in its own. She had to be locked in a small box for a long time in front of the town square. It was really weird and strange. A decade later and the town wanted to punish her! It's not like it was jail time she didn't serve. The elders were a little crazy about this. If you can get past this or don't care, then the story is really good. A solid 4/5. It's not the main focus and talked mainly towards the end of the book.

Small town vibes (and honestly a wild small town, but if you’ve experienced anything like that then you know). Loved the ADHD rep, relatable characters, and personal growth.

Flying is a great small-town romance that has been a much needed palette cleanser for me. I love all the friendships in this book. Lily has been through so much and is now having to go back and face her past, while learning more about herself. I loved Lily and her determination. What she wasn't expecting was to find romance. I mean, who doesn't love a great friends to lovers story?! This book had a lot of emotions in it, which I loved, because it makes it relatable. A found family is always the happiest of endings. Highly enjoyed reading this book!

I love the town of Peacock Springs! Wholesome, flirty, spicy romance with plenty of banter. ADHD representation and both MCs are strong, independent and amazing!
