"Man cannot remake himself without suffering, for he is both the marble and the sculptor."

In
Essays: De Rerum Natura, Gregory Blotnick takes readers on a journey through the depths of the human condition, exploring pain, discipline, duality, and the violent inner conflict that emerges when a man realizes he is his own worst enemy. Drawing on both philosophy and lived experience, the author champions relentless personal accountability not as a form of penance, but as the only true path to freedom.

Blotnick writes less as a distant guide than as a fellow patient in life's hospital, sharing wisdom wrested from the darkest nights of the soul. In this collection of thirty essays, he weaves these reflections with the timeless insights of thinkers like Pascal, Schopenhauer, Seneca, Nietzsche, and Plutarch, creating a powerful blend of hard-won perspective and enduring wisdom.

Part memoir, part philosophical tract, and part spiritual reckoning,
Essays: De Rerum Natura is a battle-tested manual for rebuilding after defeat. Above all else, it urges the reader to "keep showing up to life," holding firm in their own self-belief as they turn suffering into strength.

Gregory J. Blotnick is an investor and author. In 2025, Blotnick published two books, the first being his memoir "Blind Spots: A Riches to Rags Story." This debut received widespread praise from reviewers, with Kirkus Reviews recommending it as a "raw, self-aware, and earnest remembrance," and the Manhattan Book Review praising it as a "riveting, thought-provoking read that lingers long after the final page...Highly recommended for those who appreciate unvarnished truth and masterful storytelling." Blotnick then published "Essays: De Rerum Natura," a collection of thirty philosophical reflections on discipline, suffering, and the human condition.

Previously, Blotnick was the founder of Brattle Street Capital, a long/short equity fund based in New York, which he established after serving as an analyst at Citadel LLC and Schonfeld Strategic Advisors. Blotnick holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a B.S. in Finance from Lehigh University. He resides in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Must-read for anyone who enjoyed "Blind Spots." Blotnick's writing style is engaging, direct, and as brutally honest as ever. "Essays" is more philosophical albeit with plenty of real-life stories and detail. Some are references to Blind Spots, some are new events that transpired since the last book ended. Enjoyable read, strongly recommended.

"On the nature of things" is a thought-provoking book. Gregory breathes fresh life into some of humanity's oldest topics and debates. Exploring everything from morality and self-restraint to the perfection of one's character, his prose is sharp and witty, at times spiritual, and always reflective and poignant. The book's title pays homage to a classic philosophical text, and its essays, too, will prove to be a guide for those willing to look within for a deeper understanding.
