FAQS
- How does Seestar S50 differ from traditional astrophotography?
Seestar S50 is an entry-level intelligent astronomical telescope that sets itself apart from other entry-level telescopes by allowing users to "see" various deep space celestial objects through photography. Compared with traditional astrophotography equipment, Seestar S50 has a higher level of integration and intelligence. It integrates a motion tracking motor, electric focuser, electric filter wheel, high-sensitivity image sensor, and intelligent controller. It can automatically find and photograph any target in its star database, and help the user get more and more clear images with the method of image stack and enhancement. However, due to its highly integrated design and lightweight body, it may not meet the requirements for "serious astrophotography".
- Can Seestar S50 shoot any objects in deep space?
With its built-in anti-light pollution filter and good enough atmospheric transparency, Seestar S50 is able to shoot deep-sky objects even in city.
However, if we want to get good enough results, we still need to go to a dark site. We define the degree of light pollution into different levels. The larger the number is, the heavier the light pollution is. ZWO provides simple photos under different levels of light pollution after testing. We can compare them by ourselves. Also, don't forget that the moon is the biggest light pollution source at night, we must avoid such a time period as the full moon.
- Can Seestar S50 guide during stargazing?
Seestar S50 does not support guiding. And since its exposure time for a single frame is only 10s, there is actually no need for guiding. Additionally, the S50 features a target auto-center function, ensuring that the target remains in the center of the view throughout the entire capture process.
- I live in a very humid environment, does Seestar S50 work properly?
The telescope is a precision instrument and it is not recommended to store it in high humidity environments. Using or storing the telescope in a moist environment can pose a greater risk, such as mold on the lens and potential water damage. Therefore, it is advised to exercise caution and avoid exposing the telescope to excessive moisture.
- Which type of shooting files saved? What is the resolution?
The format of shooting files are JPEG and FITS with 1080*1920 resolution.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2025I bought two.
I highly recommend this. It is great to have up and running while doing observation sessions with other scopes. You can keep photo momentos from your gazing sessions. Not unlike the awkward pictures we get after riding roller coasters. Sans the funny face and subtle embarrassment. You will fully cherish the pictures of the sky.
Great pics, easy to use, educational, clever - there are many laudatory things to say about this product. It makes astrophotography accessible to the neophyte. It makes astrophotography easy for the initiated who find themselves too tired to fuss with a traditional, labor-intensive rig. While I applaud Spartan discipline and salute those who open the heavens by mastering astrophotography, there is nothing wrong with occasionally taking the path of least resistance. We can't all climb Everest when we want to go outside. A stroll in the park has its place. That is what the S50 represents. You can create astounding images of astronomical objects with no specialized or technical knowledge. The app is intuitive and easy to use. The device obeys with monastic discipline. The only preexisting astronomy skill one need master to use this device is the ability to determine if it is dark outside and cloudy. I have struggled more to program a coffee maker than I have in using this astrograph. Like I said - a stroll in the park.
Not to descend into the weeds on an Amazon review, but the device is also more versatile than appears at first glance. For example, it has a mosaic mode that allows imagery to be stitched together to form a larger image (lay this feature on the Orionic cloud or Andromeda galaxy and you shouldn't be disappointed). For further example, you can pull images directly from the device for bespoke stacking, and stack amongst multiple collects on multiple nights. These features make the scope more than the sum of its parts. This rings particularly true when considering limitations regarding the field of view and the alt/az mount. (If I have lost you at this point, do not fret - just know that this scope can do more than expected and has advanced features/tricks to keep things interesting).
Writing of sum and parts, the value this device represents feels criminal. Cue Fiona Apple. Roughly five hundo for a triple apochromatic and all the auto imaging trimmings?! You cannot price a piecemeal rig with these specs for anywhere faintly near this price. This is a stellar value... that pun hurt me too. I can feel your eyes roll. But do not miss the point - This is an incredible value.
If you are looking for the smart scope pièce de résistance, the Celestron Origin currently holds that title in my humble opinion (at the time of writing this. I expect this market to evolve quickly. Far future readers can snicker, but I am right in this moment.). The Origin is certainly worthy of consideration. I want one. That RASA is something else and it appears to be worth every penny of the 4k asking price. But if you are not so well heeled as to be able to dish out 4k for an astrograph, or so inclined for any number of reasons, this S50 is perfectly acceptable solution that will still allow you to make the mortgage at the end of the month.
Even in acknowledging that the Origin is generally superior, I still think this scope has its place. It is highly portable and robust. It neatly occupies a happy intersection of compact form factor, ability, and price. If portability is your chief concern (for hiking?), consider the upcoming S30.
In conclusion, this is a great product. Please consider. I recommend this wholeheartedly. This product deserves five stars (this is a pun-rich environment but I will spare you here). It certainly advances the hobby of amateur astronomy.
All things stated above are mere opinion and consider at your own risk (don't sue me).
PS: You can photoshop your friend's pets into astronomical photographs for extra fun. Bow to the absurd and all.
I wish you clear skies.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2026It is relatively easy to connect to your cellphone. I enlisted the help of Co pilot and Gemini to get it hooked up. I found M 1, the crab nebula with ease. I also found Jupiter when I was in opposition. I took a picture of it, too. This is a great scope and I am glad I purchased it. It is light, once you hook it up to the tripod, you're in business. The picture quality is good and I am amazed how easily it found M1.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2026Possibly the best thing I've bought. There's quite literally basically no assembly, just updates firmware. The carrying case is extremely high quality along with the tripod and telescope itself is immensely high quality. It tracks the objects it shoots extremely well making for very clear shots of nebulae and galaxies. If you're buying to look at planets it can't really see them. It just doesn't have enough zoom in it to see them well. Overall 9/10

- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2025What it does well
It’s incredibly easy to use—set up the unit, level the tripod, connect via WiFi, and you’re ready to go in minutes.
Very portable: all-in-one with built-in mount, camera, refractor and battery. Great for casual astrophotography, outreach or beginner use.
Excellent value: for the price you get a package that previously would need separate telescope + camera + mount.
Decent optics and features: 50 mm aperture apochromatic refractor, f/5, with internal camera and tracking.
It’s very stable with the tripod it comes with in multiple different ground types since it’s adjustable, also falls in the category of stability
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2025I own 11 telescopes, a variety of astro cameras and Ive been astro-imaging for about 40 years. I pulled the trigger on the S50 half out of curiosity, but also because I thought it might be a great 'toy' telescope to play with. It never occurred to me that ZWO, the maker of most of my serious astronomy cameras could make a great all-in-one imaging telescope for less than $600. All I can say is 'Wow!' This thing is absolutely fantastic. From the time I removed it from the box until the time I was imaging M31 (Andromeda Galaxy) directly overhead was approximately 20 minutes and that includes 5 minutes of software updates. It connected effortlessly with my WIFI network and my Galaxy Tab.
You may be tempted to watch YouTube videos about how to get the telescope up and running but many of the steps described in those videos (like manually walking the telescope around in a circle to calibrate) may be either no longer required or unnecessary as my scope automatically performed the task after powering on for the first time. I have included my first image with the Seestar S50, which took approximately 6 minutes - hardly enough time for the Cessna-sized mosquitos in my backyard to find and begin ravaging me.
Will this replace my serious imaging rigs? No way. There is a reason they cost thousands of dollars. But if you've been curious about astro imaging and would love a compact, inexpensive scope that ANYONE can set up and begin using in less than a half-hour, the S50 is absolutely terrific. ZWO really knocked it out of the ballpark with this telescope. I've never had a ZWO product fail or disappointment me and the Seestar S50 is no exception. I can't recommend it enough!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2025Such an amazing, easy to use telescope. You simply level the tripod, attach the telescope and turn it on. It looks up, identifies where it is in the universe, and says what do you want to look at? Very simple to use and great for a star gazing party. 4 people can log into this telescope with your phone or tablet and watch it stack pictures so that nebulae go from grey to amazing colors in just a few minutes. Not the best tool for looking at planets, but great for everything else. It even comes with a solar filter, so you can take pictures of the sun and eclipses. A great telescope for beginners, easy to use and a low price point.

NKE UKReviewed in the United Kingdom on September 7, 20255.0 out of 5 stars Great and easy to use
This arrived quickly with good instruction it also included a sun filter which the pictures on Amazon do not show. The nebulas shown were all taken a few days after it arrived, we have clear skies here but it was misty at times. One feature that is not always shown is the built in dew heater, this is important to me as we do have some very humid nights around here. Its also very easy to carry around and set-up at night.

Franco P.Reviewed in Italy on November 6, 20255.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo smart telescope
Jenny and SteveReviewed in Australia on September 7, 20255.0 out of 5 stars Deep sky images made easy
I’ve only used this a couple of times so far. As you would expect from a small aperture telescope it is not good for planets. However, it is good for the sun and the moon and absolutely AMAZING for nebulas, star clusters galaxies etc.! The app is easy to use. The size is small enough to take camping. For its cost and size, the resulting images of deep sky objects are stunning. Also, delivery was fast and the telescope arrived in perfect condition.
