Hi from Vietnam

Hi all 7Pass users. As I may have noticed, 7Pass 2.2 is now available in the MarketPlace. Kudo to the MarketPlace testing team for approving 7Pass within one single day. Maybe 7Pass gets some special attention, or at least I dreamed so.

Today, I’d want to share to you how I detect issues with 7Pass: via this blog’s searched queries. From example, just some days ago, “7pass will not login to dropbox” suddenly appeared in the searched queries. I immediately investigate the issue, but did not find any problem. Curiously, I tried with my second DropBox account, which I’ve never used with 7Pass, and voilà, 7Pass cannot log in. It seems that DropBox now requires the authentication type to be specified even when there’s no authentication for that request (we’re logging in, right?). All this happens even before the first comment comes. The fix was quite simple and DropBox integration is working just right now.

Another interesting stats: 7Pass 2.2 entry was viewed 200+ times in the same day it was published. 200 may not be a big number, but since 7Pass has only 236 downloads so far, I’m happy that I was able to keep my customers updated. Happy customers are the best thing for every project isn’t it.

I’m now enjoying my 2 weeks leave for the Tết holiday (Vietnam’s Lunar New Year celebration). Please excuse my progress on 7Pass as I will not have access to development machine during this time. I’ll update on this blog if there’s any issue reported.

7Pass 2.2 submitted to MarketPlace

7Pass 2.2 has been submitted to MartketPlace with the following changes:

  • Added KeyFile support.
  • Fixed DropBox login.
  • Display group/entry path in search result.
  • Larger field value display.
  • Moved Demo database to application bar for paid users.
  • Improved keyboard navigation.
  • Version number in about page.

Expect it to be available in the market by Thusday.

In a relevant news from Microsoft to developers, copy & paste is coming to Windows Phone 7 “soon”. After my 2 weeks leave, I’ll be back with 7Pass and the next big thing will be integrated browser and copy & paste integration.

There are also other features that are very much requested:

  • Editing support: will take longer to implement.
Limitation: databases downloaded from web server cannot be updated.
Ensuring compatibility with KeePass  will be a big thing as I may not be able to make it right in the first release.
  • SkyDrive support: it’s no surprise at as soon as DropBox is supported, user asks for SkyDrive even more than before. I think we can use the hacky way to emulate the browser to download the database. Therefore, the downloading speed will be slow. If only SkyDrive have an API.

As I’ll be away for 2 weeks, please voice your vote because I’ll proceed with the most requested feature first.

Keyfile support implemented

Keyfile support has now been implemented. There are 2 new items in database’s context menu (tap and hold the database name to show the context menu):

image

  • Download Keyfile: Download your keyfile. The download process is the same as downloading your database. Please note that keyfile must be updated manually because I think the keyfile should not be changed frequently.
  • Clear Keyfile: deletes the keyfile (enabled if you have a keyfile).

With this new feature, you can now use databases protected by:

  • Master password only.
  • Keyfile only.
  • Master password and keyfile.

I’ll have to update the documents to synchronize with this new feature. Please send in your ideas in the comments about this feature so that I can change it before submission to the MartketPlace. As always, code changes for this feature is now on GitHub.

I’ll submit the app for publish (7Pass 2.2) before taking a leave for the next 2 weeks. For those who celebrate Lunar New Year, have a happy and prosperous new year.

7Pass keyboard tip

In 7Pass, you can use the Enter key (on screen keyboard or hardware key) to go to the next textbox/password or perform the default action.

For example, in the Web Download page, when you’ve complete entering the url, you can tap Enter, the Download button will be clicked on automatically.

For another example, in the DropBox Download page, when you’ve entered your email, tap Enter and the focus will be at the password box. Enter your password and tap Enter again to login.

Third example, in the Search page, when you’re entered the search conditions, you can tap Enter so that 7Pass will hide the keyboard so that you can see the results.

Please note that on Windows Phone 7, the on screen keyboard can always be hidden by tapping on the Back hardware button and the on screen keyboard will be hidden.

Changes for next version

I’d want to thank all users for your suggestions and ideas which made 7Pass development so much fun.

I’d want to update everyone on changes currently made for 7Pass, which will be included in next version of 7Pass:

  • Version number in About page (feedback from Guest).
    image
  • Field value textbox auto size to display all values (feedback from Kalvin).
    image
  • Display entry/group path in Search result instead of notes (feedback from JoeUnplugged).
    image
  • Auto focus the default textbox so user doesn’t have to tap on it manually (Rename, Search, DropBox and Web download page).

Please continue to send in your suggestion so that we’ll have an even better 7Pass.
