Toad Cook walks back on stage, confidently smiling and clasping his hands in a warm gesture of reassurance.
"Just one more thing," he burps, pausing for dramatic effect.
"We are proud to announce version 2.2.0 of Gram, the source code editor."
"This is the best version we have ever created. There is a recent files picker. We've fixed some issues around flickering on Wayland. It's great. We think you'll love it."
I really do want to sit in the sofa and read a book. I just need to finish reading the internet first.
I don't want to be misunderstood as to claiming that meat-made machine instructions are intrinsically safer or less bug-infested than those wrought by steel and wires. I just don't care for a world made for and by machines. I would rather have no machines than machines controlled by machines. I don't want your ads, I don't want your subscriptions, I don't want your data centers, I don't want your concrete bunkers filled with the corpses of the rich, buried beneath a dead wasteland patrolled by drones whose speakers scream "You are absolutely correct" every time they fire missiles at each other.
None of it works, but the company is committed to spending money on it
Unsurprisingly Megadeth is greatly improved by the complete removal of Dave Mustaine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRTuJr6PnBs
"De elever som läckt dessa filmer utanför skolan kommer naturligtvis bestraffas", säger Lundsbergs verksamhetschef Lars Jonsson. "De kommer bestraffas kroppsligen, med förnedring, kanske lite piskrapp. Vår förhoppning är att deras tid på skolan kommer forma dem på samma sätt som skolan format samhällets toppskikt i generationer"
The Nestle (cursed be their name) comparison is spot on. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3t8QQU_UPXY
Gram 2.1.2 is out, it fixes altgr input on Linux. I think. I hope.

"It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor of Mankind has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth…"

I have to say I have a hard time understanding how someone can say "AI is fine, it's just a tool, I use it all the time" and then also say "I strongly believe there are entire companies right now under heavy AI psychosis and its impossible to have rational conversations about it with them. I can't name any specific people because they include personal friends I deeply respect, but I worry about how this plays out."
I love two-piece bands. This was a good one. https://properlooney.bandcamp.com/album/stranded-in-mor-n-city
I know when it comes to AI, people are either already on my side or won't care about this just like they don't care about anything else, but remember how Anthropic wrote a C compiler? No one gives a shit about that now. They could have skipped the whole C compiler part and just written the blog post without spending a single token and its lasting effect on the world would be identical. Maybe meditate on that
In actually good coding news, the first video from the Gleam Gathering is up on youtube now:
Going from ”just experimenting here” to merging a week-long bullshit-rewrite from zig to rust is exactly what I’d expect from both the bun team and Anthropic and should really tell you all you need to know about both of them
I really want to like Mirlo and Subvert (all cooperative Bandcamp alternatives) but they are all US-based and I just don't think that makes them meaningfully different from Bandcamp.
Note: Removed Resonate from the list: Maybe it isn't US-based? I have music on there but know very little about the status of it now...
Gram 2.0 is out after a weekend of coding by hand like an animal https://gram-editor.com/posts/release-2.0-0/
Also, weird slug but guess what, I typed that myself with my human sausage fingers.
Feels like we’re stuck in a tech news Groundhog Day just recycling the same news over and over.
- A new open source project turns out to be slop.
- An old open source project adopts slop-based development practices.
- A middle-aged white guy falls in love with his AI girlfriend which he names ”Lucia”.
- A paper is published showing major frontal-lobe damage after minutes of AI usage.
- A Silicon Valley tech giant claims massive gains using AI while laying off half the staff.
- Some cloud service is having an extended outage.
at least there is some comfort in knowing that when the world ends, it ends very stupidly
