1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions.
3. You should then update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You should include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed you should ask them 5 questions.
1. what is your favorite book and why?
I don't read nearly as much as I used to. These days, if I read a novel it's probably one that someone gave me that they liked, or one that I've read a half a dozen times already. The majority of my library is spiritual right now.
So now that I've waffled, I'm also going to cheat and say that my favorite book is "Song of Songs". It's poetic and uplifting and deeply romantic. Also, some of the metaphors don't seem to have made the journey across the millenia all that well, so parts of it are silly, at least to my modern ears.
2. how did you get started with spinning, dying and knitting and how long have you been doing it?
"I should learn how to knit." This inspiration came to me out of the blue one day about five years ago. I didn't see why not, so I asked one of the ladies I worked with to show me how. She asked me the very same question, you know. I have no better answer than a random inspiration. But, it was the door through which we became pretty good friends.
The spinning and dyeing has a more logical (and far more recent) origin. My tastes in fiber and patterns have become more sophisticated. Mere acrylic bulky will not do but there are consequences to this stand. A skein of sock yarn with enough yardage for a pair retails $15-$25. (Mind you, it had better be pretty darn special for me not to wait for a 30-50% off sale; any less is merely "for sale" rather than "on sale".) As yarns get finer and fibers more specific and just generally nicer, the price goes way up. Unfortunately, even if the fiber itself is nice, sometimes the designers have the color sensibilities of sugar-crazed preschoolers. So, in the interests of economy and having colors that don't hurt my eyes, I am in the process of learning to spin well enough to knit something out of it. It's a work in progress.
3. if you were stranded on a desert island with only the Scriptures and a huge book of blank paper and a pen, what would you write? ( a novel? a book of devotions? doodles? messages for help to put in bottles and send out to sea?
Maybe a spare copy of my favorite bits so I wouldn't wear out my originals? I suppose I would have the time to commit vast swathes of Scripture to memory, so maybe it would be a moot point.
I was going to say notes on how Scripture constantly refers back to itself and foreshadows itself, and that kind of niftiness, but I have trouble getting it from my brain to my pen. It keeps losing something in the translation. :P
4. what do others say is your most endearing trait?
Silliness. :) And a deep appreciation for silliness and sentence fragments.
5. what do you think is your best trait?
Dunno. I'm just trying to get along as best I can.
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
