Forementioned first attempt at dyeing roving

Here's my last chunk of starter roving, after my first attempt at dying the roving rather than the finished yarn.  Now that it's properly dry, it's not as weird-looking as I feared.

As for precisely what you're looking at, it's a big long chunk of fibers that have all been cleaned and combed so that they're all going in one direction, ready to be spun.  If I'm careful, the fibers should follow each other onto the spindle, rather like dominos in reverse.  I've rolled it in a spiral so you can see the colors.

Hopefully, the yarn from this will be be subtle.  Then I can start thinking about how I want to dye future bits of fiber. (I'm not a big fan of many of the colorways out there; they remind me of Skittles candy, and not in a good way.)  I wish I were better at picking colors!  I get overwhelmed by the choices, and then before you know it there's another skein of Skittles. :P
