Hey folks! I got back from another year volunteering at Sundance film festival and I need to stop screwing around and make a film. This needs to happen. A short, maybe.

ScriptFrenzy is coming up in April- 100 pages of script in a month, no problem- but I need some folks to help me shoot and act. Getting iMovie up and running to do editing, and scoring is something I've always wanted to do, so that's all set. Before April I'd like to hold some brainstorming meetings, see what resources are available, etc.

Anyway, if you're in the DMV and want to get in on this, I WOULD LOVE SOME HELP. Comments?

... the burning question is, 'Are you feeling creative, punk?' (to misquote a famous person ;) ).

If so, the January 2012 round of 2xcreative is for you!

As always, here's how it works:

- You put your name in the hat by commenting on this post (people without LJ accounts, please make sure to leave an email address!).
- After sign-ups are closed, I get all the names together and perform a feat of randomisation in order to produce a list of pairs, which I post here on the comm.
- You and your partner get in touch with each other to cook up a collaborative creative project, which you will have a month to complete.
- At the end of the month/beginning of next month, you and your partner come back to the comm to show us what you've made.

Sound cool? Okay, go to it! I'll leave the sign-up post open until Saturday 31 December, 21:00 my time (GMT+8 this time, because I am on holiday in Australia :D )).

One thing though - PLEASE only sign up if you intend to follow through on the project. There have been a few occasions where people's partners have not showed up. This is a big disappointment, so please, don't do that. Naturally, this doesn't include unexpected occurrences of Real Life, but if something comes up that makes it impossible for you to continue, please let your partner know as promptly as possible. Thanks!

One more thing: If you'd like to spread the news of the latest 2xcreative sign-ups, you can do so by clicking on the button below and sharing this post on your own journal.

<lj-repost button="Post this to your journal!">

First off, I apologize for the lateness of this post. Crazy RL issues [including a lingering illness and a big craft show] and intermittent internet kind of conspired against me getting this posted up in a far more timely manner.

Just a quick clarification FYI :: <s>There are no links to <user name="teganwl" site="livejournal.com">'s images just yet. I will update them as soon as I know where she's got the images up.</s> All of teganwl's images can be seen in this entry.

For October, I was paired up with teganwl. We decided to do another round of poetry and imagery, each of us creating something initially to send to the other for further inspiration. We didn't really decide on a theme this time around, which ended up being a good thing, as I let the lovely Pacific Northwest weather inspire me…

I started by writing three poems about fall weather, which I then sent to teganwl to use as inspiration for some sort of graphic. In order, I wrote a kyrielle, a naani, and a sedoka, all based on the theme of fall arriving and winter coming.

"Time for Fall"

A bracing chill is in the air.
Leaves scamper across the sidewalk,
Imagined mice can make you stare.
And now the time for fall is here.

The nights are longer, darkness falls
Earlier with each passing night.
Spiders scurry to hide in walls.
And now the time for fall is here.

Fires are lit, they flicker and glow,
Lighting the darkness, keep us safe.
Stars glitter brightly, lovely show.
And now the time for fall is here.

"hike"

icy chill deepens
weary to the bone
body tries to slow down
movement keeps me warm

"autumn"

cool, crisp air flows down
the mountains have snowy peaks
warm summer is longed for still

winter is coming
animals seeking shelter
gorge themselves to last 'til spring

And then teganwl sent me the beautiful Fall Triptych image that she made based on these poems. She'd initially intended to draw something, but ended up taking a trio of lovely fall color photos to make her end result. I definitely like the end result.

At the same time, she made a couple of images for me to get poetic inspiration from. Both images are really beautiful, and made me think of Dr. Seuss' artwork, which I happen to adore greatly. From her first image, Starfish, I created a double acrostic poem called "starfish". I was originally going to do a standard acrostic, but felt I could take on the challenge of a double acrostic. They're much tougher than you'd think. LOL!

"starfish"

sinuously slithering waves
treading slowly toward their font:
a little whitewater area.
rocky shorelines make great cover
for kids blowing some steam off.
impossibly high tree foci
send people climbing up the rocks,
hoping to find purchase enough.

She then sent me a piece that ended up without a name, but immediately made me think of Horton Hears a Who when I looked at it. It was an instant image and I couldn't help but go with the inspiration. *g* Out of that image came a pleiades poem, which was a new form for me to work with. I think I may end up working with it more often, even if it did give me a few fits and starts.

"hermetic"

hidden seussian landscape
hangs underneath mushrooms.
how'd they get under there?
homes teeter on narrow
high cliffs above the clouds.
heroes long to explore,
hindered by their stature.

This entire project was actually quite fun to do. I got five new poems out of it, which always makes me very happy. And the images and graphics that teganwl created are absolutely gorgeous! It was a really nice collaboration between us, I think.

Hi all,

I'm guessing everyone's got their heads down in a feverish flurry of NaNoWriMo effort, because we only had one person respond for this month's project. So no 2xNovember, it seems - sorry about that! I hope you are all nevertheless engaged in many wonderful creative pursuits. Have fun!

See you at the end of the month :)

Hello and a Happy (and suitably scary) Hallowe'en to everyone who celebrates. >:}=

It's that time again, or rather, it's slightly past that time again (again) ... time, that is, to sign up for another month of 2xcreative mayhem.

I'll leave the sign-up post open until Wednesday 2 November, 09:00 my time (GMT+1)).

One thing though - PLEASE only sign up if you intend to follow through on the project. There have been a few occasions recently where people's partners have not showed up. This is a big disappointment, so please, don't do that. Naturally, this doesn't include unexpected occurrences of Real Life, but if something comes up that makes it impossible for you to continue, please let your partner know as promptly as possible. Thanks!

One more thing: LJ has this spiffy new feature, a re-post button! If you'd like to spread the news of the latest 2xcreative sign-ups, you can do so by clicking on the button below and sharing this post on your own journal.

<lj-repost button="Post this to your journal!">

Sign-ups now closed

Call for submissions

Hello! This is a call for submissions to my new compilation zine project: "Dear You: Letters To Lost Friends". I've previously posted here calling for subs to the rather successful compilation zine: The Perfect Day and this would be my 2nd comp. zine.

What is this about?
Dear You: Letters to Lost Friends is a compilation zine project containing letters to people who for various reasons, are not in our lives anymore / are less significant.

It is inevitable that people who enter our lives, leave eventually. Dealing with people leaving is not easy, but it is the ways some of them leave that just make it a lot more difficult to handle. The sudden non-talking, the disinterest, the distance, death... This could be due to many reasons, major disagreements, moving away physically or emotionally, breakups, differences, changes in life circumstances, deaths and etc.

Writing letters could be a crucial part of the healing process.

Submit letters you've written to friends who were once in your life but aren't anymore / less significant.

For more information, kindly visit the project site here.

Thank you!
August 2xcreative project - ariestess's reaction

I was paired up with teganwl to create a project for the month of August, right?

The Set Up
After several PMs and emails, we ended up deciding on a project of teganwl taking photographs that I would interpret via poetry. I was actually quite stoked by this idea, to be honest, as it was something different for me to try.

I was sent one picture in mid-August, but set it aside for nearly two weeks to get some other things taken care of first. Last week, I sat down to work on my poetry based on the single photograph I was given [due to issues with models for other photographs]. Normally when I write poetry, I start out in my poetry notebook, then finalize and type it up into a Word file, right? For whatever reason, this time I just started typing right into Word. Imagine my surprise Wednesday night when I went to grab said file and somehow couldn't find it to open it. At first I thought I must have had a corrupt file somewhere that I couldn't open. Then, after doing a search, I realized I simply couldn't find the file. Basically, I'd typed up the poems while doing other writing projects that involved opening and closing a lot of files, including some temporary files. Yeah, I closed out the poetry file without saving it, assuming it was just another temp file that didn't need to be saved.

So I wracked my brain last night, trying to remember enough of what I'd done to re-cobble the poems together, as I'd kind of liked them. But I couldn't do it. So today, I just started over. Four poems came out, based on the photo below.

The Project

This photograph belongs to teganwl.
Any and all inquiries go to her for further use.

And now, the poems... I wrote 4 poems, each in a different form. They were all based on either a certain word count or syllable count. In order, the forms I used are diamante, mirror tetractys, double etheree, and triple naani. All formats were found on one of my favorite poetry sites, Shadow Poetry.com.

"murder"

murder
bloody, final
stabbing, chopping, ending
dark, obsessive, content, alive
living, breathing, laughing
continuous, gift
survival

"death"

death
murder
life snuffed out
competition gone
blood red is the best nail color ever

when it dries, i'll finish hacking him up
freeze larger roasts
grind the rest
grilled ribs
yum

"the question"

life
or death
is always
the question.
he cheated on you,
slept with your only friend,
lied to your face about it.
the look on his face when she died
was so priceless, it nearly killed you.
you were stronger; he sobbed once when he died.

you thought their deaths would make you feel better
vindication is a fickle bitch.
blood red nails stained by their deceit.
their screams alerted neighbors,
the cops are closing in.
surrender or die,
the bull horn bleats.
what to do?
live or
die.

"inevitable"

video games
are bloody,
violence abounds;
murder is the next logical step.

no guilt is there;
the sociopath feels no shame,
paints her nails
while the bodies drain of blood.

soon she'll take her leave,
and let the bodies rot.
no one's caught her yet.
she knows no fear.

The Wrap Up
I really enjoyed doing this project. It made me look at my poetry with a definitely external source, which was a fascinating experience. I love that I was able to weave four different poems out of that one picture, each a little different from the next. Of course, looking at the picture and teganwl's titling of her post that has the pic, I'm seeing that she was working toward more of a zombie approach. But I suppose murder and killing aren't really all that far off, whether it's zombies or "regular" people, right? Just the initial intent and possibly methods would change.

Definitely interested in doing a project like this again.

Hi everyone,

I am going about with permanent egg-makeup, it seems. My apologies for forgetting to announce the September pairs at the end of August.
Hi all,

Here comes September! Time to sign up if you'd like to take part in a 2xcreative project.

I'll leave the sign-up post open until Wednesday 31 August, 20:00 my time (GMT+1)).

<lj-repost button="Post this to your journal!">

Report on March Collab. YokoSpungeon vs. Pax_Morgana

Hello fellow creatives.

I am reporting back on the March collaboration between myself and pax_morgana.

Early on, we decided to rebel and mutually agreed to extend our deadline beyond the month because we had big ideas. Sadly we have had to suspend the project as far as we got with it, because life got complicated...

pax_morgana is a writer, and I am a messer in many mediums. After some online discussion, taking inspiration from pax's piece 'one' I decided to create two cushions, one for each of us to keep.

They are kind of 'dark' and more like an art piece than soft furnishing. Each cushion is made from heavy canvas, with grosgrain ribbon, silver lurex and black burlap applique, Swarowski crystals and glass beads sewn on, and a few of pax's words are embroidered and inscribed onto them.

I frayed the edges of the appliqued texts, because I wanted to suggest decay and deterioration per the text.

I used the symbolic motif of the hands, because in your story, the size comparison gives the moment of levity and relief and their reaching out the sensation of hopefulness.

There are three hand made buttons (a friend of mine made them yonks ago) that are fake, in that they look like they close the back but they don't, if you slide your hand up there, there is another hidden pocket. But they have a strange look, like an MRI scan slice, which seemed to fit the story.

The idea was that pax would then write a short piece inspired by the cushion, something to go in the secret compartment (something like a will, or a suicide note, or...?) and I would make an actual representation of it to be stored in the pocket to be discovered by the casually curious.

Sadly, pax has been just too over-committed to complete the project at present, but hopes to in the future. But we thought we would just draw a line under it for now so that we could both move on.

Link to pax_morgana's journal to read the inspiration piece 'One':
You keep your window dark, the curtains heavy and closed day and night. You don't like to look outside; you don't want to be reminded of the things you've told everyone (and yourself) you have learned to do without...

Thank you for introducing us in this way, it was a fascinating and challenging process.

2xcreative May

Hi everyone, it's that time again! May is rolling around tomorrow, so sign-ups are now open.

I'll leave the sign-up post open until Sunday 1 May, noon my time (GMT+1)).

<lj-repost button="Post this to your journal!">

Hi all,

In the absence of any further sign-ups, it looks like there won't be a 2xcreative this month.

Apologies for taking so long to get back - LJ wasn't working for me yesterday.

Hi all,

I've had only one person put their hand up for the April round. Anyone else want to join in? If so, hasten to this post and leave a comment there. I'll leave it open for another few hours, or till tomorrow morning if necessary.
