"So the theory was correct." Khan says, reclining on the observation deck late in the ship's evening. McCoy thinks it's a little underwhelming a reaction to finding out why there are two Spocks on board, but he's too hazy with the juice to do more than huff about it.

"How many do you think there are?" he asks, rhetorically "Having just these two seems unlikely."

Khan smirks at something, maybe his exasperated tone - 'just my luck there are two Jim Kirks to worry about' it seems to say - and looks up at the vast expanse of stars over their heads. His eyes catch the blue of the nebula they're passing and McCoy feels struck by it.

"They could be an infinite number. One for each choice anyone has ever made, one for each possible hand of cards every game of poker."

It's a chilling thought, that they're even more insignificant than the stars made him feel. Khan takes a sip of his brandy and the old fashioned shackles they've had to resort to chime with the motion.

"There's gotta be one where..."

He stops, Khan's gaze comes to rest on him. They're not supposed to be up here, he remembers. He's got a hypo with enough sedative to kill a whale in his sleeve, and Khan still has the upper hand. There's got to be one, he thinks, and watches as a bright star they pass shines over Khan's face.

"Each choice." Khan says.

It starts off, as most little office things, with small conversations here and there that gradually turn flirtatious, but then you begin to step it up a little. You find Q’s weakness and start to mention it more and more. There’s not a conversation that doesn’t somehow mention it. It gets to Q, you can hear it in his voice. You can hear his fingers tapping away at the keys a little louder. He almost stamps them down at one point. You hold back your sniggering this time. You’ve pushed him to the edge.

You worry at first when his line falls silent. You call his name 2 or 3 times, but give up. You cannot blow your cover. You guess the line failed and Q’s hard at work fixing it. He’s never this long though, and part of you worries about Q, the other worries about you. Q is a second pair of eyes and ears out here, and you can cope perfectly fine without his commands, but you’ve grown to like them.

A sharp hissed turn left allows you to release that breathe you never realised you were holding in. Along with it tumbles out a whole load of emotions and your shoulders lift.

You try to make conversation a little, but it falls on deaf ears. You now realise it’s not a faulty line. Q only talks to you to give you directions. His commands are as short and sweet as he is. . . was. A little fear creeps up on you. No, you know Q will never let you down. It’s that you begin to think you’ve lost a friend. That somewhat witty banter you shared now gone, possibly for good.

You tell yourself you’re not worried. You’ve got nothing to worry about; Q will speak when necessary, he’ll still have your back. A little silent treatment never hurt anyone, you especially. You can handle this.

When you get back to Q branch, Q had calmed a little. His finger glide over the keys, effortlessly. He half smiles when he sees you, but you can feel his off attitude. You open your mouth to speak and that’s when it hits you. Right in the mouth.

Q punches you, hard, in your mouth. It hurts, stings. You tell yourself it’s because it caught you off guard, but even when the shock leaves you, you still feel a tingle.

You turn to look at Q, but he’s not where you expect to find him. He’s not in the room. He’s like a hurricane. In and out with a power blow that still hurts long after. It’s the shock of it all. You fail to understand it at first.

You know you have to apologise. You’ll figure out why exactly; even though you don’t want to know what comment it was that pushed Q passed his limit. But you are proud of him. Proud that he stood his ground. Proud that he can really punch! And that’s a better feeling.

You take the agent’s hand in yours. Holding back a tidal wave of emotions behind a single sigh, you take the wet cloth in the other. You no longer count the amount of times you’ve done this. You’ve given up trying to care. It’s not your job, but you feel somehow responsible. As if you have the technology to stop the free will of James Bond. You tell yourself it’s not your fault, but you don’t believe it. Your laptop bleeps and LED flashes betray you; they tell you, you can track him. You are an extra pair of eyes and ears in the field.

You’d never know that Bond does it almost deliberately. You’d never believe it anyway. He is a double o after all; trained to the highest level. But it’s true, in part. He’d limp back to Q Branch in a messy state; sometimes blood, sometimes mud. It had crossed your mind that the agent never limped to MedBay. You guessed it was pride. You never questioned it, or him further. And if you had he’d never tell. He comes to you, Q, because, well. . . This is more intimate than any relation he’s ever had. He comes to you, Q, to feel a connection he is lacking. To feel human again, perhaps.

As you clean him up, you get closer than he has ever allowed anyone that wasn’t part of a mission. As you slowly, carefully wipe the blood (or mud) away you’re silent. You breathe in time with him, although you never notice. There is a closeness you’d never truly appreciate, but he does. And that’s why he keeps coming back to you in this state. One day he hopes to come back to you clean, and for you two to continue this caring tenderness, and perhaps a little more.

As he’s job, sex is what he does. You’d never believe him if he just came across as confident in his approach. This is how he gets round it. Until he feels brave enough to reach across to you, he’ll keep getting himself shot. What does that say about the World Class agent? He’d rather get shot than talk to his crush. . . Than talk to you. You’d never know.

You’d never know.

There’s something oddly cute about the Russian accent, and the way he often struggles to pronounce some words, but Jim’s favourite by far is Keptin. He grins a little wider every time Chekov’s announces him on the bridge.

“Keptin on ze bridge”

Chekov’s voice is always chipper. He smiles just as brightly at Jim before making his announcement. He’s probably as happy to say it as Jim is to hear it.

It wasn’t just "Keptin", but it held a special place in Jim’s heart.

When he begins to talk dirty, Bond imagines Q’s the other side of the ear piece cringing and turning a bright crimson. He likes to laugh at the idea of Q being in front of Q-branch slowly filling with embarrassment.

When he begins to get a little closer, Bond likes to pretend he sees Q flinch. He likes to pretend he sees Q’s cheeks get a little hotter. He likes to pretend he sees Q reaching for his collar, and fanning himself down.

But Q, he knows, never does. He keeps a level of professionalism above any Bond’s ever seen. That’s why Bond likes to imagine he can embarrass the little shit. He can’t. It won’t stop him trying though, for before long Q will turn a shade of red at his hand; he just needs to try a different tack.

When Peter suggests it, Harry instantly dislikes it. The idea of a “cold turkey” is just an hallucination; non existent in Harry’s mind.

Harry’s “recovery” would be a long, slow process. It’ll take more time, money and effort than Harry was willing to throw at it, and he guessed Peter didn’t have the energy for it either. He liked to believe that Peter would be there at every step. Whenever he reached for the needle, Peter’s hand would bat it away. Whenever he went for the bottle, Peter reminded him he had something to live for.

But something deeper inside him told him he wouldn’t. That evil reminded him again and again that everyone in his life had left him. His father, oh, he could never rest his mind about his upbring at the hands of his father. He could probably “recover” from the drug and alcohol addiction, but his mind would never recover.

It didn’t put Pavel off though; he kept in character, being as professional in his role playing game as he was in real life.

Jim bit his lip, trying to suppress more laughter. Pavel was super cute, but this dirty talking just didn’t suit him. It shocked and surprised the Captain his young Ensign knew should profanity.

Pavel continued to mutter dirty words into his ear. The feel of hot breath against the sensitive skin around tickled the Captain further. His laughing fit would surely ruin the whole night.

Pavel kept up the act. Jim would’ve been proud had he been able to stop laughing.

“I’m sorry, Pash!” he breathed through flattening giggles.

“You vant me to stop?” Pavel asked.

“No, no” smiled Jim. “Please.”

With a lick of lips, Pavel disappeared under the sheets. Now wasn’t the time for talking.
