Dean watches from across the street as Ellen tends to the window display, arranging flowers like shot glasses. She meets his gaze, but doesn't move, only nods. He smiles.

Jo lives in the next town and pays bills by sitting behind a cash register at a gas station. When he walks in, she tilts her head and says, “Are you a ghost?”

He shrugs. “Maybe.”

"I just want Mary safe," Samuel interrupts harshly, shifting his rifle.

"I do too," Deanna bursts out. Samuel moves to answer, but she presses on, "And I want both of you safe, but you're still here, dragged into this life. I didn't even give you the chance to walk away."

"It's exactly why I couldn't," Samuel replies, confused. He can't understand. He wants to ask her, We both want the same thing. Why are we still arguing?

When he cups her face with his hands, looks into her eyes, she recoils.

“Don't,” she says.

He brushes his fingers against her cheek. She shivers.

“Don't touch me like that.” She moves away.

He follows.

He touches her again, and she melts.

She touches him, and his skin burns.

Uriel strikes her again, sending her head back. She tastes blood on her lips.

“What are your intentions, Ruby?” Castiel asks again.

She wipes the blood, raises her gaze to meet theirs, and says, “Fuck you.”

Uriel raises his hand, but Castiel motions for him to stand down.

Ruby remains still as Castiel moves closer. He stands over her and his face softens.

“Will you die for them?” he says.

She manages to smile. “Will you?”
