🌳📚 Big news for school greening!Congress just introduced the Revitalizing America’s Schoolyards Act (RSYA) of 2026, a federal bill (S. 4258 / H.R. 8303) that would create a federal grant program to transform asphalt schoolyards into greener, healthier, climate-resilient spaces for students and communities.This matters because too many schoolyards, especially in under-resourced communities, are still dominated by asphalt, facing extreme heat, little shade, and flood-prone pavement. 🔥At APIFM, we’re already advancing this vision through our Fremont Elementary School multi-benefit greening project in Alhambra, CA – creating a schoolyard with more trees, shade, outdoor learning space, and stormwater capture. 🌳💧RSYA could help more communities advance projects like Fremont nationwide! 📢 School greening is climate action, public health, and equity. ✨✍️ Take action! 🌿 We’re excited to share highlights from the new raised garden beds installed at Malamalama Ole Lalolagi Church (MOL). Our team has been steadily tending to the space, watering the seedlings, checking on their progress, and watching the garden come to life day by day. What began as freshly built beds is now slowly transforming into a growing garden, cared for with intention and consistency. We planted a variety of crops including lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens, cucumber, and more. These selections not only support access to fresh, nutritious food, but also reflect and honor the preferences of the community we serve. We're grateful to the LA Food Equity Fund and the MOL congregation for their ongoing support in bringing this vision to life. We look forward to continuing to nurture these plants alongside the community and watching the garden flourish in the weeks ahead. 🌿
Growing Together at MOL 🌱
Our team recently returned to Carson in partnership with Malamalama Ole Lalolagi (MOL) Church for another impactful distribution. 💚 This event featured fresh produce and coconut milk made possible through SCAN Health Plan funding, along with taro leaves purchased from Alma Backyard Farm thanks to support from the LA Food Equity Fund. 🥬🥥 ✨ A special highlight of the day was the taro leaf taste test (known as palusami in Samoan and lu in Tongan), deliciously baked in coconut milk by Joel and Isa Fonua. Community members had the chance to enjoy a cherished staple of the Pacific Islander diet. 🌺 We also distributed mochi pancake mix, generously donated by Every Day Action, adding an extra treat for families to enjoy this season. 🎁 Throughout the event, attendees shared their gratitude and appreciation for both the variety and quality of items offered. Despite recent changes to funding and a shift to less frequent distributions, the warmth and welcoming energy from the MOL community remains strong. Their generosity continues to inspire us, and we look forward to continuing to serve and support them. ✨
