Goodbyeday Night

Goodbyeday Night

She’s tired
(or so she says).
He sends her off to bed.
He sends her off to bed alone.
He’s tired.

Five Ts… x3

tan/ten/tin/ton/tun

She challenged us to do a Stream of Consciousness piece using one or more words from her “tan/ten/tin/ton/tun” list and promised us BONUS POINTS if we use them all, but I’m (still!) waiting to hear HOW MANY Bonus Points using the whole tan/ten/tin/ton/tun list will get me, and what (if anything) can I get in exchange for these (alleged) “BONUS” POINTS? And: Do I earn EXTRA BONUS POINTS if I use the “tan/ten/tin/ton/tun” list more than once?

I ain’t writin nothin til I hear back.

Nightwalk

Nightwalk.
Across uneven, unpredictable and
wet terrain.
In silence.

Where there is snow
what snow there is, gleams:
(looks like summer phosphor
or Saint - maybe - Elmo’s fire)
it glows:
like the last dim remembered remains
of last November’s ember-pile.

Rain plip plop far as the furthest
ear can hear:
drizzles down drenched raincoats’
camouflaged by night --

There, through the dark in the rain,
single file and silent,
the new tribe finds its way.

The Drive-By

The Drive-By

No matter
how clear the windshield or
how bright the headlights,
there comes a time
(usually late in the journey)
when the big show
is in the rear-view mirror.

Sooner or later
the tension of time fades:
we drive toward
and long for
a future
we know will never arrive
and we do our best
to get through the present
hoping for enough time
to sort out the growing past.

We watch our watches, waiting
for midnight to become dawn
just one more time
until it doesn’t.
