Process

Translucent pigment is sprayed onto opaque surfaces and clear PVC is dip-dyed and layered over perforated leather for placement gradients on apparel and accessories. Digital printing lends precision to grids and ombr effects, which are then composed in planes that play with perspective. Hand-painted detail, brush strokes and airbrushed graduated tones lend a more textured, spontaneous direction to the trend

Material

Matte porcelain, paper and coated leather are layered with perforated metal mesh, spacer fabrics, net, powder-coated grids and punched leather

Colour

Black grids on a white ground with colourful gradients in sherbet lemon, pomegranate and sky blue. A more subdued palette combines tones of teal, lavender and mud brown with black and white

Form

Crisp geometric forms are overlaid to reveal unusual overlaps of semitranslucent colour and form

Lacoste – Spring 2015

Lacoste Spring/Summer 2015: This season Lacoste presents a collection with a sporty look which I’m not usually a fan of, however the classic garments are revamped to a give a modern twist to their powerful minimal classic designs. Stripes were a common theme, the colors are fashionable blue tones subtly complemented by blacks & purples. This ‘Modern Heritage Collection’ takes Lacoste back to its sporty roots and presents a chic range, revamping it’s classic garments & incorporating modern style.

Dion Lee – Ready To Wear Spring 2015

My favourite looks from Sydney-based Dion Lee’s show in New York. This season, his key reference was the Australian artist Jeffrey Smart, known for, as Lee described them today, his “industrial roadside landscapes.” What appealed to Lee about Smart’s work, he went on to say, was the way it conjured “a dark feeling through a bright palette”—and the clothes Lee showed this morning pulled off the same trick, on the whole.

In their reflective jackets and dresses trussed in seat belt-like straps or a weighty moto chain, Lee’s girls came off like a particularly glam, postapocalyptic biker gang. You wondered how they’d manage to straddle a bike in one of Lee’s signature body-con pencil dresses, though, or whether they’d get windburn on all the skin winking through the dresses’ cutouts. You also spared a concern for the possibility that one of the collection’s many dangling straps could get caught in a tire or the gears. Silly thoughts, perhaps, but they get at something problematic in Lee’s oeuvre, which is his tendency to let his brilliant talent for engineering patterns move him in the direction of overcomplicated clothes. He should put that talent to work on streamlining. The most pared-back looks were the ones that struck a chord today: the show-opening strapless dress, sculpted out of silver mesh; a tunic in a brash painted print; a halter top trimmed in that heavy chain, worn over a pair of fluid black pants.

Lee’s track-style jackets hit a refreshingly realistic, streetwise note, and the black lace threaded with iridescent plastic yarn was seriously cool, and probably underutilized. Lee has a gift for weird fabrics alongside his gift for engineering patterns, but too frequently they cancel each other out—once again, a good deal of simplification seemed in order. As it is, Lee is either working too hard or not hard enough.

The label NEO DIA was developed by Gavin Lowes and Becky Chua after they met on their first day studying fashion design at reputable RMIT in Melbourne and discovered that they had compatible tastes. NEO DIA stands for fitted, ready-to-wear pieces heavily structured to play with forms imagined by famous architects such as Frank Gehry. The brand also use an element of surprise, unexpected cuts in the fabric, or wrapping techniques in flexible layered cloth in order to challenge the ordinary lines with which women surround themselves. The overall effect is that of a disciplined and future forward individual.

The label’s designs have been selected by a variety of celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Jennifer Hawkins, Dannii Minogue, Laura Dundovic, Kate Peck, Kimbra, Ashley Hart, while Vogue Italia described NEO DIA as a new talent and potentially the future generation of fashion.
