Optical oximetry, and near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in particular, is a tool for assessment of the oxygenation status and hemodynamics of various organs, e.g. muscles or the brain. All cells in the organs of the body have a constant but variable need for oxygen. However, the body's stores of oxygen are minimal. Therefore, a constant and adequate supply of oxygen to the tissues through circulation of blood is essential. Any interference with tissue oxygenation will lead rapidly to irreversible damage. Near infrared spectroscopy, the technique on which the OxyMon, Brite MkII, OctaMon, and PortaMon/PortaLite are based, relies mainly on two characteristics of human tissue. First, the relative transparency of tissue to light in the NIR range, and second, the oxygenation-dependent light absorbing characteristics of hemoglobin. By using a number of different wavelengths, the relative changes in hemoglobin concentration can be displayed continuously.

You took the time to position the electrodes accurately, so it should be worth the time to measure their locations with respect to surface landmarks to enhance future signal analysis options.  3D locations of electrodes can be used in co-registration of surface measured physiological signals with anatomical MRI, CT and other imaging modalities in software applications such as EMSE Suite and others.  Quick and accurate measurement of 3D electrode positions adds only 3-5 minutes to a typical study, but it ensures precision when coregistering surface measurements with anatomical images.

Neuomodulation encompasses a wide variety of technologies for modifying brain activity relatively non-invasively. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) - a method for non-invasive stimulation of the brain in which a coil is placed near the head, inducing small electric currents in the region of the brain just under the coil. We offer highly flexible TMS stimulators designed for research, with or with out concurrent EEG.  TMS is generally used to stimulate centrally, but it can be used to stimulate peripherally as well. Eye-tracking refers to a collection of technologies for sensing where a person is looking (termed "point of regard").  Eye-tracking is a popular measure in its own regard in research on reading, visual attention, marketing / advertising and psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia.  We offer several types of eye-tracking solutions brought to you by Cambridge Research Systems Ltd., including high frame rate systems up to 500 frames/second, high-precision systems for use inside the fMRI scanner and affordable systems for simple fixation monitoring in behavioral and ERP applications. System Integration We provide integration assistance with the EEG systems we sell.  If you are buying an eye-tracker for stand-alone use, let us know your application so we can help you settle on the best fit.  If you intend to use the eye-tracker with a system you already own that we sell or support, let us know the serial number of the unit.  If you want the eye-tracker to be provided as part of a complete laboratory configuration, knowing some details about your application will let us guide you to the most convenient and cost-effective solution. Other Ocular Monitoring Methods Not Considered Eye-Tracking Note that there are other ways of measuring eye movements that do not provide enough information to determine point of regard, but those are listed elsewhere in the site.  For example, electrooculogram (EOG) can be measured with any DC bioamplifier, and it is often used to detect large movements away from a fixation point, but it is not generally considered suitable for determining point-of-regard.  Similarly, the Jazz Vigilance Monitor for use with ActiveTwo monitors ocular motility within the head/socket but due to viscoelasticity, the signal is not suitable for determining point-of-regard.  Jazz provides a very high frame rate and high sensitivity, which make it useful for microsaccade detection.

We offer both manual and vocal response devices that are flexible, accurate, and easy to use.  Whether you need an accurate reaction time measure, a participant response in a behavioral paradigm, or a control input that determines the direction the rest of the experiment will take, we have a solution.  We offer manual response devices intended for use in ERP and behavioral testing applications and voice response devices designed specifically for experiments requiring a vocal response.  We also supply response boxes from Cambridge Research Systems for use in ERP and Behavioral situations and a fiber optic response system for use in MEG and fMRI made by Current Designs.

Cortech offers software and hardware for experimental control and behavioral response measurement.  Flexibility is the most requested feature in stimulus delivery and response measurement apparatus.  We’ve selected software programs and devices that can be computer driven for the ultimate in flexible stimulus delivery.  Each of these tools can be interfaced with any of our acquisition systems for measurement of EP’s and ERP’s or they can be used by themselves for behavioral testing. We offer experimental control and stimulus delivery solutions suitable for users at both expert and beginner levels.  We also offer hardware for auditory and somatosensory stimulus delivery, constant current, constant voltage electrical stimulation, and multimodal stimulus control as well as devices for measuring and marking visual and auditory event timing.

Electrodes, head-caps and sensors are designed to interface to almost any bioamplifier system, to the degree that the system conforms to some standard interface parameters.  If you are looking for head caps, active electrodes, passive electrodes or other types of sensors that can be used with an existing system, chances are you are in the right place.  Sensors that are designed only for use with a given acquisition system are listed as accessories under that system and are not duplicated here.
